Oxnard Man Sentenced To Prison For Lewd Acts On A Child

     A judge Monday sentenced an Oxnard man in connection with the child sexual abuse of a little girl.

     62-year-old Jesus Zavala Castaneda was given 8 years in prison and he must register as a sex offender.

     In March of this year a jury found him guilty of two counts of lewd touching of a minor under age 14.

     They also found true special allegations that the victim was vulnerable and that Castaneda took advantage of a position of trust.

     Prosecutors say the charged crimes happened between 2018 and 2019 and stopped after the then 13-year-old victim reported the abuse.

     The two week trial included testimony from the victim, her family and friends, as well as a detective, a teacher, and an expert on child abuse.

     Senior Deputy District Attorney Edward Andrews said the testimony from the victim, her peers, and her mother was especially courageous.
