The Ventura County Sheriff's Office says they've arrested a homeless man charged with stealing $2,500 worth of equipment in a burglary at a business that backs up to the Santa Clara River near Oxnard.

It's alleged that during March and April, 30-year-old Ryan Langley who apparently lives in the Santa Clara River stole multiple boxes of tools and even an acetylene torch from the business.

A special sheriff's unit that deals with the homeless in the river bottom was called in to search for Langley once detectives had identified him as their suspect.

Using ATV's deputies spent several days looking for him and on April 10th they located Langley and took him into custody.

They also recovered the stolen property.

Langley pleaded not guilty to Second Degree Burglary and then was released on his own recognizance.

He is due back in court next week.

The Ventura County District Attorney's Office says a registered sex offender has been sentenced to 3 years and 4 months in state prison for possession and distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material while being a registered sex offender.

66-year-old Ronald Kenneth Rosen of Simi Valley had earlier pleaded guilty to the charges.

Rosen became a registered sex offender for life back in 1997 when he was convicted for a similar crime.

His most recent crimes came to light through a Cybertip from a web service provider to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children who passed it on to Ventura County authorities.

Prosecutors say Rosen's possession and distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material was extensive and took place over several years.

DUI DL Checkpoint Generic4

Deputies in Thousand Oaks are planning a DUI/DL checkpoint for Saturday night.

It's planned for 7 PM to 3 AM at a currently undisclosed location in the city.

Deputies will be looking for impaired drivers which includes not only alcohol or cannabis and even prescription drugs obtained legally or not.

The bottom line is that if your judgement and ability is impaired by any substance then it's a DUI.

And also at the checkpoint, deputies will be looking for those drivers who either have a revoked or suspended license or are not in possession of their license.

All of those possibilities can get you cited and even have your vehicle impounded.

Simi Valley man was arrested Thursday for allegedly robbing and abusing his grandfather.

On Wednesday officers responded to a residence in the 1700 block of First Street to a report that a 20-year-old Simi Valley man had committed a strong arm robbery against his 85-year-old grandfather.

The suspect refused to come out of the residence.

Police returned on Thursday with an arrest warrant accusing the grandson of robbery and elder abuse.

He still refused to come out so officers went in to get him and found him in a bedroom where they say he refused their commands and threatened them.

They tried less lethal 37 mm rubber baton rounds to take him into custody but that didn't work.

So the deployed a K-9 and he finally surrendered.
