83-year-old Man Sentenced In Ventura County For Child Molestation

     Updated--An 83-year-old man with a history of child sex crimes was sentenced Wednesday for doing it again.

     83-year-old John Carillo Chavez of Lompoc was sentenced to 14 years in state prison.

     Earlier this year, a jury found Chavez guilty of five felony counts of Lewd Conduct with a Child Under the Age of 14.

     The jury also found true Special Allegations of Substantial Sexual Contact, that Chavez Violated a Position of Trust, and that the Victim was Particularly Vulnerable.

     Prosecutors says that Chavez, already convicted of child molestation in 1995, sexually abused the victim five times between October of 2001 and October of 2002 in Ventura County.

     The victim, now an adult, came forward years later to report the crimes under a state law that allows that up to the victim's 40th birthday.

     In addition to the prison sentenced, Chavez must also register, again, as a sex offender.
