Tuesday January 24, 2023
Updated--A Thousand Oaks man was sentenced Tuesday to four years in state prison for a fatal DUI crash in that city more than two years ago.
Last November 15th, 41-year-old Michael Seidman pleaded guilty to Gross Vehicular Manslaughter while Intoxicated and Driving a Motor Vehicle without a Valid Driver's License.
According to the authorities, on October 17, 2020, then 39-year-old Seidman was driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana when he crashed nearly head-on into another vehicle driven by 88-year-old Fred Rosenberg of Westlake on Erbes Road at Hauser Circle.
Rosenberg died two days later at the hospital from injuries sustained in the crash.
At Tuesday's sentencing hearing, everyone involved in the case including family and friends of both victim and defendant and the defendant himself made both written and verbal statements to the court.
At the conclusion of the sentencing hearing, the judge sentenced Seidman to four years in prison and Seidman, who had been free bond since his arrest, was taken into custody to begin serving his sentence.
In addition to the prison sentence, Seidman will be prohibited from driving for three years.
