Update--A Moorpark man was sentenced Wednesday to 4 years in state prison for a fatal DUI crash in Ventura a year ago that killed his friend.

26-year-old Arnulfo Rodriquez Jr. was found guilty by a judge of Gross Vehicular Manslaughter while Intoxicated after Rodriguez entered a no contest plea to that charge in June.

Two special allegations were also found to be true.

The CHP says that shortly before 3:30 AM on the morning of July 12, 2021, Rodriguez was driving a 2016 Infinity Q 50 on the West Main Street off-ramp from the southbound 101 when the vehicle traveled off the roadway and tumbled down the dirt embankment.

A passenger in a rear seat of the vehicle, 26-year-old Andrew Felix Mejia, also from Moorpark, was killed.

Another 25-year-old male passenger from Moorpark received major injuries.

The CHP says Rodriguez was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol and gross vehicular manslaughter.

It was a solo vehicle crash.

Rodriguez was remanded Wednesday to begin his state prison sentence.

He was also given a Watson warning that if he ever caused a fatal DUI crash in the future he could face a murder charge.

His license was also suspended for 3 years and he was ordered to pay restitution.
