A fundraising effort has been launched by the Ventura County Sheriff's Foundation to raise money to build a training facility for K-9 and Equestrian Units of the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.

The facility would include a 12 stall barn, horse arena, classroom, training lawn, sheltered dog washing station, and hay storage.

The Foundation says the Equestrian and K-9 units play essential roles in public safety.

The Equestrian unit provides crowd control, search and rescue operations, and patrol in rural areas.

The K-9's are used to detect drugs, explosives, and locate missing persons as well as aiding in detaining suspects in critical situations.

Members of the Equestrian unit provide their own horses and currently have to find their own place to stable the horses.

The new facility would give them a place to keep the horses.

Both units are required to continually train and the new facility would give them that place.

The fundraising efforts for the facility are ongoing by the foundation, which is a non-profit 501C(3) organization.

In addition to direct donations, you can make donations by buying tickets to the foundation's annual BBQ on October 20th.
