The Ventura Pier reopened Thursday despite the fact that the damage done by this week's high surf will not be fully repaired until spring.
City officials say that damage involved four pilings with two of them being torn off the pier.
Some of the cross-bracing was also damaged.
But officials say they've done some immediate repairs and the long-term repairs can wait until spring without compromising public safety.
They plan to do the long-term repairs once the winter storms have passed and the seas have calmed.
