Ventura police, including the SWAT team, Major Crimes detectives, an armored vehicle, and a K-9, arrested a man they identified as the suspect in two armed robberies.
They say that 23-year-old Jonathan Sabalza was taken into custody around 6 AM at his apartment in the 6300 block of Whippoorwill Street.
Police say they found him hiding in the apartment, refusing to come out and surrender.
After a brief standoff, Sabalza did come out and surrendered without further incident.
No one was hurt.
Police say they searched the apartment and found a handgun believed used in the January 30th robbery at the Chevron station at 3477 Telegraph Road in Ventura, and the March 3rd robbery at the Circle K at 3506 East Main Street in Ventura.
They say court records indicate that Sabalza has two open cases from last year charging him with felon evading an officer, hit and run, possession of a controlled substance, and a prior conviction for resisting arrest in 2017.
