For the first time ever, Ventura hosted a stage of the Amgen Tour of California.
Stage Two started at 11:15 AM Monday at the Ventura Pier as more than 100 world class cyclists took off for an almost 100-mile race through Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, Somis, Santa Paula, Ojai and into Santa Barbara County, ending after a grueling ride up Gibraltar Road to the peak before 4 PM.
Ventura City officials were pleased about how things went as a host city this year.
They say everything went smoothly and the city benefited from the excitement and recognition.
While the race has traveled through several parts of the county in the past, including Ventura, Ventura is only the second city in the county to host a stage of the race, the other being Amgen's home base of Thousand Oaks.
