A Ventura County judge has ordered a woman to stand trial on vehicular manslaughter, DUI, and other charges in connection with a fatal crash on Highway 126 west of Fillmore last year.

On the night of October 13, 2017, 21-year-old Maia James of Palmdale was driving westbound on the 126 west of Fillmore when she crossed into the eastbound lanes and collided with two eastbound vehicles.

The passenger in James's vehicle, 20-year-old Ornella Jones of Palmdale, was killed.

The occupants of the two other vehicles suffered minor to major injuries.

   James suffered minor injuries.

The CHP says her blood alcohol level was almost three times the legal limit.

Prosecutors say there was evidence James had been drinking all day and had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.

She remains free on bail and is due back in court later this month to have a trial date set.
