Monday January 14, 2019

The Ventura County District Attorney's Office says a Simi Valley man has pleaded guilty to workers' compensation fraud.

They say that 67-year-old Charles Ruben, formerly of Simi Valley, collected almost $39,000 in workers' comp disability benefits between May 2016 and November 2016 for an injury sustained while employed for an electric gate company in Simi Valley.

Prosecutors say Ruben failed to mention he earned more than $48,000 during that time working as a self-employed contractor.

They say when he pleaded guilty he also paid restitution of more than $41,000.

Ruben faces sentencing June 7th and the maximum possible sentence is five years in jail.
