Santa Paula Man Accused Of DUI Crash 3 Months Ago That Claimed The Life Of A Pregnant Woman

Thursday January 17, 2019

A Santa Paula man has pleaded not guilty to charges that he killed a woman who was seven months pregnant and injured a little girl in a drunken driving crash in that city almost three months ago.

Police allege that 40-year-old Arturo Juarez was speeding and driving drunk when he crashed into another vehicle on Santa Paula Street at Bradley Street on the night of October 20, 2018.

27-year-old Alma Crisanto Baltazar of Santa Paula was a passenger in the other car and died at the scene.

Police say she was seven months pregnant and her unborn child also died.

A two-year-old girl her vehicle was injured.

The driver of their vehicle, 27-year-old Freddy Solorzano of Santa Paula, was also arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

But police say it was Juarez who caused the crash and is liable for the deaths and injury, not only because of his intoxication level was almost twice the legal limit, but also because of the reckless way he was driving.

Police say Juarez was driving 69 miles an hour in a 35 mile per hour zone.

Juarez was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and causing bodily or death to more than one victim.

He remains in the Ventura County Jail with bail set at $150,000.
