Oxnard police say they were able to talk a suicidal man holding two knives to his throat into surrendering without hurting himself or anyone else.
Around 11:30 last night officers responded to an apartment in the 1300 block of Althea Court where they found the man holding two knives and threatening to kill himself.
They also learned that the man's family were locked in an upstairs bedroom and were evacuated by officers using a fire department ladder to get them out a bedroom window.
Police say as the man held the knives to his throat, other officers talked to him for a half hour and finally got him to put the knives down and surrender.
He was taken to mental health for evaluation.
No one was hurt.
