Oxnard police responded to Haydock Intermediate School on Hill Street late Thursday afternoon after someone reported seeing a male with a gun on campus.
The school went on lockdown as police swarmed the area and methodically searched the campus, room by room.
The students and staff who were still on campus were carefully relocated to the cafeteria.
As of 6 PM, police had reportedly not found anyone on campus with a gun but they were still looking.
By 6:30 PM, police had declared the campus safe but were still in the process of reuniting students with their parents who were waiting outside.
