Oxnard Man Sentenced For Murder

Thursday January 17, 2019

Ventura County Judge Ryan Wright sentenced an Oxnard man to life in prison without the possibility of parole for killing another man in Oxnard more than six-and-a-half years ago.

A jury last September found 25-year-old Daniel Alvarez guilty of first-degree murder, attempted robbery, and found true a special allegation that the killing happened during the attempted robbery.

Prosecutors say that on June 3, 2012, Jorge Rodriguez of Oxnard was socializing with friends in the garage of an apartment complex on the 3600 block of Samuel Avenue in Oxnard when Alvarez accused Rodriguez of selling him counterfeit methamphetamine.

They say Alvarez demanded his money back and when Rodriguez could not produce the money, Alvarez shot him to death.
