Oxnard Man Arrested After Wild Chase In Goleta

Tuesday May 15, 2018

Deputies in Santa Barbara County say they arrested an Oxnard man for shoplifting in Goleta, but not before he led them on a wild chase that resulted in a minor injury to one of their motorcycle deputies.

The deputies had responded to the Home Depot in the 6900 block of Market Place Drive in Goleta around 3:45 PM Tuesday to a report of a theft in progress.

When they arrived, they located the suspect, 29-year-old Jeffrey Morgan of Oxnard as he tried to drive away from the scene.

Deputies say that in an attempt to get away from them, Morgan jumped out of his running vehicle which struck a Goleta Motor Unit causing minor injuries to the deputy.

They say Morgan then fled on foot across the parking lot, scaled a fence and ran through the busy intersection of Storke Road and Hollister Avenue.

Deputies ultimately caught up to him and took him into custody.

They determined that Morgan was on parole for armed robbery and the vehicle he was driving was stolen out of the West Hills area of Los Angeles.

Morgan was treated at the scene for minor injuries and then booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on a host of felony and misdemeanor charges including possession of hydrocodone and psilocybin, resisting arrest, felony hit and run, vandalism, driving on a suspended license, committing a felony while out on bail, possession of a stolen vehicle, and violating parole.
