Ventura police are looking for a suspect and a motive for a shooting that left a man wounded.
Shortly after midnight Friday morning, police received a call about a shooting in the area of Mission Park in the 200 block of East Main Street.
When officers arrived on the scene they were told by witnesses that a man had been shot.
They told police that a passerby had taken the victim by private vehicle to Community Memorial Hospital.
Officers caught up with the victim at CMH and discovered he had been shot once in the lower leg.
After being stabilized, the 49-year-old man was taken to VCMC for further treatment.
Meanwhile, other officers located the crime scene near Mission Park and began processing that area for evidence.
Police did not release any other details about the shooting.
