Updated--A veteran Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy who worked in the sex crimes unit has pleaded guilty in Ventura County to sex crimes.

46-year-old Neil Kimball of Agoura Hills pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of a lewd act on a child and one count of unlawful sexual intercourse, both felonies.

Prosecutors had originally charged Kimball with forcible rape of the 15-year-old girl in 2017 in Ventura County while she was tied or bound and that he intimidated a witness by threat of force.

But those original charges were dropped and the charges against Kimball were changed to lewd act on a child and unlawful sexual intercourse.

Kimball then pleaded guilty to those new charges.

Under the original charges Kimball could have faced up to 19-to-life in prison.

But under the revised charges, the maximum sentence is 3 years in prison.

Prosecutors say Kimball met the girl while investigating a sex crime where she was the victim.

Kimball, who has been in jail since his arrest last November of last year, remains in the Ventura County Jail without bail pending sentencing August 8th.
