A former civilian employee at Naval Base Ventura County has been sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for receiving more than $1.2 million in illegal kickbacks.
69-year-old Fernando Barroso Senior of Oxnard had pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy and one count of filing a false tax return.
Barroso worked for 20 years as a master scheduler for the Public Works Department at the Navy base and was responsible for approving material purchases, service contracts, vendors and payments to vendors.
He conspired with a Ventura County businessman in the kickback scheme.
That businessman, Theordore Bauer, has already pleaded guilty in connection with the case and is awaiting sentencing later this month.
