Ventura police say they arrested a man for brandishing a gun and being in possession of a stolen vehicle following a strange confrontation outside an ice cream parlor Friday.
It happened shortly before 5 PM outside the McConnell's Ice Cream at 3241 East Main Street.
Police say the two victims were sitting in a van next to the business when a man came up and said the owner of the van owed him money.
Neither victim knew the man and the three became involved in a verbal argument which escalated into a physical altercation.
During the fight, police say a handgun fell from the man's clothing and onto the ground.
They say the man picked up the gun and pointed it at one of the victims.
Police say the victims were able to subdue the man, take the gun away, and detain him until officers arrived.
They discovered the gun was not loaded and the man was driving a stolen vehicle.
The man, identified as 63-year-old Thomas Young, was arrested for brandishing a firearm and possession of a stolen vehicle and for being in possession of a controlled substance.
Police say that Young is on Post Release Offender Supervision (PROS).
According to Ventura County court records, he has eight prior drug-related felony convictions.
