Camarillo Man Gets Jail Time For Stealing Money From An Oxnard Restaurant He Managed

Monday May 20, 2019

The Ventura County District Attorney's Office say a Camarillo man is getting jail time for stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the Oxnard restaurant he managed.

Prosecutors say that 34-year-old Michael Joseph Gomez managed Tierra Sur Restaurant at Herzog Wine Cellars.

They say he used several schemes to steal cash that customers left as tips for wait staff including manipulating entries so that the wait staff would be paid but the restaurant would appear to have received a gift card payment it never really received.

Prosecutors says Gomez also fraudulently voided customer payments, the pocketed the cash for himself.

They say that between March 24, 2014 and July 21, 2017, Gomez stole $114,267.

This past February Gomez pleaded guilty to four counts of felony grand theft.

Monday he was sentenced to 48 months in jail.

The judge said 16 months of that will actually be spent in custody with the balance on supervised release.

Gomez was also ordered to pay restitution to Herzog Wine Cellars.
