Arrest Made For Gang Graffiti At The Ventura Cross

Sunday July 7, 2019

Ventura Police say they arrested a man Sunday morning for spray painting what appeared to be gang graffiti near the Serra Cross inside Serra Cross Park next to Grant Park.

They say the incident was reported at 8:18 AM and officers responded to the scene.

Police say they detained a male and female while they investigated.

Officers say they spoke to witnesses who said they saw the man, later identified as 24-year-old Moises Melendez of Riverside, allegedly tagging with spray paint on several locations inside the park including at the base of the Cross and nearby steps.

They say it appeared to be gang graffiti.

Police say the vandalism was more than $400 which made it a felony with a gang enhancement and Melendez was arrested.

The female was not arrested and released at the scene.

Ventura has a graffiti hotline at (805) 654-7805.
