A Ventura Man Sentenced To Life In Prison For The Rape And Kidnapping Of A Woman He Was Dating

A Ventura man was sentenced Monday to 60-years-to-life in prison in a sexual assault and kidnapping case involving a victim he was dating at the time and who was also pregnant with his child.
28-year-old David Romero had earlier been convicted by a jury of forcible rape and infliction of injury on a dating partner.
They also found true that Romero committed aggravated kidnapping against the 20-year-old victim.
Prosecutors say the crimes happened during 2013 in the cities of Ventura, Oxnard, and Port Hueneme.
They say in June of 2013, Romero crawled through the victim's bedroom window and dragged her away from her residence.
Prosecutors say he then forced her into her car, drove to another location, and raped her inside the vehicle while parked on an Oxnard street.
They say during the attack, he punched the woman in the face several times.
She suffered injuries to her arms, face, and genitals.
Romero had been dating the victim for several months and she was pregnant with his child at the time of the crime.
Romero had prior convictions for stalking and cirminal threats against another dating partner.
