Ventura police arrested a stabbing suspect Monday but not before they say he fought with officers.
Around 7:17 PM there was a report of a stabbing victim in the 6800 block of Auto Center Drive who had reportedly been assaulted in an unprovoked attack in the nearby Santa Clara River.
Emergency medical pesonnel found a 40-year-old man with non-life threatening stab wounds to his face and front torso and he was taken to VCMC for treatment.
Meanwhile, as Ventura police responded, an officer spotted the suspect on Johnson Drive near the Motel 6 and attempted to take him into custody.
Instead, the suspect ran and the officer gave chase, finally catching up to him on the pedestrian bridge that runs alongside the 101 Freeway over the Santa Clara River.
That's where police say the suspect started fighting with that officer and others who arrived on scene for several minutes before finally being subdued.
One officer received a minor injury, but the suspect was not hurt.
Police arrested 37-year-old Rudolpho Carazoles, a vagrant, for assault with a deadly weapon, felony resisting arrest, and for being a Post Release Offender.
They say he's a felon with prior convictions for resisting arrest and possession of a dangerous weapon.
