(Here is the previous story)--For almost five years the Ventura County Sheriff's Department had been trying to identify the suspect in the kidnapping and rape of a woman in an orchard west of the city.

For almost five years the Ventura County Sheriff's Department had been trying to identify the suspect in the kidnapping and rape of a woman in an orchard west of the city.

Detectives say the victim had been walking in the 15000 block of Santa Paula Street in May of 2013 when she was grabbed by a man who was armed with a knife.

They say the suspect forced the woman into the nearby orchard and sexually assaulted her.

An extensive search was conducted for the suspect after the crime was reported, but they did not find him.

There was DNA evidence but for several years they could never find a match in the database known as CODIS.

   Then, in 2018, a match.

Detectives allege the DNA from the crime scene finally found a match in the database with DNA belonging to now 38-year-old Leroy Chad Tracy of Santa Paula.

They say that was because Tracy had been arrested years later for an unrelated crime and his DNA finally went into the database.

Tracy was arrested Wednesday in the 700 block of Sespe Avenue for kidnapping for robbery, forcible rape, and several other sex crime charges relating to the 2013 incident.

He is due in court Friday to be arraigned.

In the meantime, Tracy remains in the Ventura County Jail with bail set at $1 million.
